Jimmy Owens emerged prominently in the late 1960s, performing with deeply Black-conscious groups such as Gary Bartz’s ''Libra'' and the Charles Tolliver Big Band, and is also known as a funky player who co-led a group with Kenny Barron. Dizzy Reece, meanwhile, released leader albums on Blue Note and New Jazz during the 1960s and has earned an especially devoted following in Japan for his uniquely understated presence as a trumpet player. This extraordinary archival recording captures these two contrasting trumpet stylists battling it out live in the Netherlands.
