Gato Barbieri, 2014 reissue of the saxophonists' 1969 debut solo album released on Bob Thiele's Flying Dutchman label. Session musicians include Liberation Orchestra members Charlie Haden & Roswell Rudd, plus pianist Lonnie Liston Smith. It was a brash statement where free jazz and Latin rhythms collide and is a breathtaking demonstration of a style that made him one of jazz's great players of the 1970s. With his later classic 1976 Caliente album Barbiere's career soared to new heights.
