His first major studio album in six years, Pat Metheny’s Side-Eye III+, is the latest evolution of a concept he first introduced in 2021. The ongoing project is designed to focus on collaborations with younger musicians the contemporary jazz icon admires, allowing him to reimagine his past work and devote the collective talents to new original music as well.

Pat Metheny released Side-Eye III+ on February 27, 2026, his first major studio album in six years and the first release on his new imprint, Uniquity Music, created in partnership with Primary Wave. The album is led by “Make A New World,” described as a sweeping composition that captures both the scale and intimacy at the heart of the project.

Side-Eye III+ continues the evolution of the Side-Eye concept, originally conceived as a platform for collaborating with exceptional younger musicians. At its core is the touring trio of Metheny, Chris Fishman, and Joe Dyson, whose deep musical connection shaped the foundation of the record before it expanded in the studio to include an extended cast of players.

Recorded in the studio with additional collaborators including Daryl Johns, Brandee Younger, Luis Conte, and a vocal ensemble led by Mark Kibble of Take 6, the album expands the original trio framework into a broader sonic landscape. Metheny says, “This music is complex and detailed, but it feels inevitable — it sounds like what the world feels like to me now.” He also says, “People will recognize a lot of my thing in this music, but I think they will also be surprised by it.”

Metheny and the Side-Eye ensemble will embark on an extensive world tour throughout 2026, with performances across North America and Europe. The live shows will reinterpret the new material while continuing the project’s emphasis on exploration and forward motion. The Japan edition includes an exclusive bonus track.
