Born in a U.S. military house in Fussa, Minyo Crusaders have opened up new musical territory by fusing traditional Japanese minyo with Latin rhythms, earning high praise not only in Japan but also overseas from outlets such as NPR and The Guardian. Ry Cooder has called them “the best band I’ve ever seen,” and Iggy Pop has also named them as one of his favorite bands.

● Their first new release in three years, "Nihon Minyo yori Ai wo Komete" (English title: "From Japan with Love"), has arrived. As the title suggests, the album is centered on the concept of love. Through songs like "Hokkai Bon Uta," "Hanagasa Ondo," "Shigesa Bushi," and "Iyo Manzai," it revives various forms of love—romantic affection, love for family, and love for one’s hometown—that have been passed down in minyo across Japan. These themes are brought vividly back to life through their signature style, blending Japanese folk songs with global beats such as salsa, cumbia, and Afrobeat.

● For the first time, guest artists are featured on this album. From Japan, Chitose Hajime and Saya Asakura join the project, while from Colombia, their close ally Frente Cumbiero is also featured. The powerful synergy between the artists creates a sound with unprecedented scale in the band’s history, resulting in a work that fully demonstrates Minyo Crusaders’ mission of spreading Japanese minyo around the world.

● With appearances on NPR’s "Tiny Desk (home) Concert," the release of the documentary film "Bring Minyo Back!", and annual European tours, Minyo Crusaders have continued to deliver what can be called a musical love letter—Japanese minyo—to audiences both in Japan and abroad. Now truly in their element, they are ready to make the world dance "YOI YOI" through the power of love.
