Opis:
Supervised and selected by Toru Hashimoto (SUBURBIA), with artwork by Jiro Fujita (FJD) and mastering by Calm, ''Cafe Apres-midi Meets Studio Ghibli'' is a newly recorded Ghibli song cover compilation themed around “the happiness of afternoon coffee,” featuring 12 outstanding artists. This release presents a special 7-inch single cut from the compilation!
Side A: Yoshiharu Takeda feat. Ann Sally / ''Inochi no Kioku''
The Ghibli song collaboration between rising composer/arranger and keyboardist Yoshiharu Takeda—widely praised by artists and listeners alike for his soothing blend of chillout, jazz, ambient, Balearic, and world music—and the wonderful singer-songwriter Ann Sally, whose calming and healing voice has continued to resonate with audiences since her 2001 debut, is a cover of Kazumi Nikaido’s ''Inochi no Kioku,'' the theme song from Isao Takahata’s 2013 film ''The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.''
Built around a slow jazz arrangement featuring relaxed brushed drums and warm bass lines that gently embrace the melody overflowing with compassion and tenderness, the track is further enhanced by pedal steel and handpan sounds drifting in from afar like echoes from paradise. Ann Sally’s pure, transparent vocal performance feels like an angel descending upon that paradise itself. Her vocal style, which carefully treasures every word, conveys the full emotional depth of the original song, resulting in a truly timeless and universal masterpiece of a cover.
Side AA: Yuga with Takuro Okada / ''Teru no Uta''
This perfect collaboration between the remarkable singer-songwriter Yuga—whose unforgettable voice has captivated listeners since the release of her first album in 2015 and whose unique musical style evolves from folk, soul, and R&B—and the highly trusted guitarist/producer Takuro Okada, who also handled sound production for Yuga’s acclaimed album ''Love Deluxe'' and has contributed to works by numerous artists, is a cover of Aoi Teshima’s ''Teru no Uta,'' the theme song from Goro Miyazaki’s 2006 film ''Tales from Earthsea.''
Yuga’s voice deepens the lullaby-like atmosphere of the original into something even more serene and spiritual, radiating a truly one-and-only presence. Takuro Okada’s arrangement further enhances the song’s dreamlike and deeply resonant atmosphere with a meditative touch, guiding the listener into a peaceful harmony resembling a quiet utopia. Modest in appearance yet spiritually rich and fulfilling, this cover stands as an exquisite masterpiece.
The jacket artwork features newly illustrated visuals by Shiho Sato, a painter known for creating backgrounds for Studio Ghibli films, and former Ghibli animator Shinichiro Yamada, with design by FJD.
