Description:

Vaughan Mason, who worked at a record store and was also a radio DJ, was inspired by Chic's "Good Times" and decided to take matters into his own hands. He raised funds from friends and produced "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll." From its initial release, it was embraced by NY rappers (countless hip-hop artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Jazzy Jeff, Heavy D, and Redman sampled it), and by 1980 it had become a massive hit, reaching number 5 on the soul charts. Furthermore, it became a lowrider anthem on the West Coast, making it a record that transcended time and place.
